Best Summer Road Trips in Louisiana

Girl In Car Going On A Road TripSummer road trips have been an American tradition for many families since the mid-1900s. Louisiana is home to several iconic sights and a few well-kept secrets that make it the perfect state to explore beneath the summer sun. Here are some of the best summer road trips in Louisiana recommended by us here at Nissan of Lake Charles!

White Castle

While it may sound familiar as a cheap restaurant, this White Castle is much more impressive. Otherwise known as Nottoway Plantation, White Castle stands as the largest remaining antebellum mention in the entire Southern United States. Visitors can even pay to stay a night in a mansion built in the late 1800s and sitting at 53,000 square feet!

Jean Lafitte National Park

Six sites make up Jean Lafitte National Park, but the best of the bunch is certainly Barataria Preserve. The 23,000-acre wetlands offer plenty of natural wonders to behold, including wildlife like frogs and birds. Keep your eyes open as you explore the marshes and forests, though. The area is also home to alligators.

Tunica Hills

Hills aren’t the first thing one thinks of when Louisiana comes up in conversation. Tunica Hills, however, is a premier destination where visitors can enjoy nature and spot some wildlife on the loose. Foxes, bobcats, and coyotes tend to roam the area, so be sure to have your eyes open and camera ready!

Holiday Travel Tips

Holiday Travel Tips

The holiday season is a wonderful time of the year but it can also be incredibly stressful. Many people don’t travel throughout the year save for the holidays and that can cause some problems. Travelers that aren’t used to congested roadways or crowded airports can slow things down. Here are some helpful holiday travel tips from us here at Nissan of Lake Charles that will help make starting the most wonderful time of the year less stressful.

  • Pack Light – Heading home for the holidays? Consider shipping your extra clothes and presents through the mail instead of packing them. Doing so will ensure you get through security quicker and leave drivers will less to pack into the car. Flyers could also avoid hefty baggage fees by bringing a single carry-on.
  • Eat – No matter how much of a hurry you’re in, grab a bite to eat along the way. Many travelers choose to forego eating until they reach their destination in order to save time. As a result, they often grow irritable, and that isn’t good when stress levels are already running high.
  • Research – Do your research on which airlines offers the best deals. Drivers should plan their route ahead of time. Make sure to use the technology made available by smartphones, tablets, and navigation systems as well!

Nissan Titan Warrior Concept Boosts the Already Intense Titan XD

Nissan Titan Warrior Concept

When it comes to the roughest and toughest trucks, Nissan raises the bar year after year, and 2016 is no exception. In fact, the automaker recently revealed the Nissan Titan Warrior Concept, based on the popular 2016 Nissan Titan XD.

The exterior of the Titan Warrior Concept could easily be described as futuristic battle armor, with sharp, chrome edges that contribute to an overall aggressive style. This model is tough, and its looks reflect that.

Plus, this concept model is ready to go just about anywhere, with a Cummins Turbo Diesel V8 engine, heavy-duty six-speed Aisin transmission, and a custom off-road suspension, making off-road conditions a worry of the past.

It just doesn’t get much wilder than the Titan Warrior Concept, a vehicle that looks like it was transported back in time from a science fiction war movie. Whether or not the Titan Warrior Concept model will go into production remains unknown, but we are certainly hoping that it represents the Nissan trucks of the future.

Confused About Green Car Terms? Four Essential Words You Need to Know

Green Car Terms

2016 Nissan LEAF – 100% Electric Car

With all the new technology that green cars bring, the many terms and various jargon used to describe green cars can get a little bit confusing. To help you out, we’ve put together this little guide of green car terms:

  • Electric vehicle – An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that runs on electricity instead of gasoline.
  • Hybrid vehicle – A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that runs on a combination of systems. For example, some hybrids combine an electric motor with a classic gasoline engine.
  • Plug-in hybrid vehicle – A plug-in hybrid vehicle refers to a vehicle that uses more than one system (making it a hybrid), including an electric source that can be re-charged by plugging the car into an external source of energy. Often these vehicles can operate on only electric power like an EV or only gas power like a hybrid.
  • Fuel cell vehicle – Lastly, a fuel cell vehicle refers to another type of specific hybrid. In this case, one of the energy sources is electric, and the other is a fuel cell, which converts hydrogen gas into power.

American Nissan GT-R Nismo Debut to Show Off the New with the Old

Nissan GT-R Nismo Debut

Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500

The 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo promises to be the most stunning edition of the classic Nissan model yet, and now, it’s about to get its U.S. debut, after months of anticipation for stateside fans, at the Japanese Classic Car Show this month in California.

The new Nissan GT-R Nismo got its world debut earlier this year at the Nurburgring, but this will be the first opportunity for Americans to see it up close. The gorgeous model is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and it can produce up to 600 horsepower.

At the Nissan GT-R Nismo debut we learned that it has received a ton of upgrades, particularly to its newly renovated interior, which now sports more of a minimalist tone, with far fewer knobs and a sleeker design. The model’s all-wheel drive system has all been improved, making the GT-R Nismo safer in poor weather.

Cleverly, Nissan has scheduled this debut to take place at a show that is classic-car themed, so the newest GT-R Nismo will get its big day right next to some of the oldest, most-loved Nissan models, including the No. 05 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.

Add blue cheese-apple slaw for an added burst of flavor.

How to Best Pack Your Car for a Road Trip

road trip

If your family is like so many others in the United States, then you probably have a road trip coming up soon this summer. One part of a successful road trip is having a well-packed car, so here are a few tips on how to pack your car for a road trip.

  • Luggage. When packing your luggage into the trunk or cargo area, make sure the heaviest items are on the bottom. You also want to avoid stacking items so high that the driver can’t see out of the back of the vehicle.
  • Overnight bag. If you’ll be stopping overnight along the way, consider packing an overnight bag (perhaps a single suitcase for the whole family) that includes only the essentials you’ll need for the night and the next morning—a change of clothes, medicines, toiletries, etc. That way you don’t have to bring in all of your luggage and repack the car the next day.
  • Activity bag. Each member of the family should have a small bag of things to occupy them during the trip—books, tablets, coloring, handheld games, etc.
  • Snacks. If you’ve ever been on a road trip before you know how important food is while in the car. Pack a good supply of car-friendly snacks and drinks to keep everyone happy. Place the snack container in a central spot so everyone has access to it.

What are some road trip essentials that you pack in your car?  Let us know at Nissan of Lake Charles!
