Nissan GT-R Smashes the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Drift

2016 Nissan GT-R

Nissan has just smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest drift with a 190 mph, 30-degree drift in a modified Nissan GT-R NISMO. There’s a reason they call it a power slide, and this drift has plenty of power.

The GT-R NISMO was tuned to crank out a massive 1,380 horsepower, which is more than double the regular GT-R NISMO you can find at Nissan of Lake Charles. And at 600 horsepower, that one’s no slouch either.

If that wasn’t enough, all of the power goes to the rear wheels only. After getting up to speed on a 1.86-mile runway at the United Arab Emirate’s Fujairah International Airport, the GT-R NISMO went into a full, 190 mph drift. Of course, even the best car requires a driver, and keeping it all together behind the wheel was none other than Japanese drift champion Masata Kawabata.

What’s more impressive than the new record is just how thoroughly it destroyed the previous one (held at 135 mph), and in only just three attempts per Guinness’ rules!

Watch the video below and tell us what you think about this incredible feat at Nissan of Lake Charles, located in the heart of Cajun country in Lake Charles, LA.

Australian Artists Snake Hole and Chris Le Modify Glow-in-the-Dark Nissan JUKE Models

With its distinct shape and style, the 2016 Nissan JUKE is one of the most artistic vehicles in the automotive industry. Nevertheless, two Australian artists recently took the artistic aesthetic of the Nissan JUKE to the next level, by creating a pair of glow-in-the-dark Nissan JUKE models.

Australian artist Snake Hole and Chris Le recently took on the challenge to transform models of the Nissan JUKE into street art as a part of White Night celebration in Melbourne, Australia.

“Our initial impression when we saw the JUKE was it had snake-like characteristics,” said the Snake Hole team in the press release. “The grill, headlights and long smooth lines resonated immediately with us. We decided to create a series of snakes that traced the shapes and features of the JUKE. We utilized negative space, so that the snakes were glowing, and everything else would be blacked out.”

Chris Le created a model based around the Chinese New Year, while Snake Hole appropriately selected a snake-like theme for their piece.

These pieces of art just go to show how truly creative you can be when you have a Nissan vehicle at your disposal!  What would you do to customize your Nissan Juke or other Nissan Models?  Tell us at Nissan of Lake Charles!

Who Says Cute Can’t Be Cool? Meet the New Nissan Scoot Quad

Busy Street

All-electric is all-good in our opinion, and we’re not the only ones who think so! A bunch of people in California – specifically San Francisco – are learning the benefits of going all-electric and of ride-sharing, and it’s all thanks to the new Nissan Scoot Quad.

What is the new Nissan Scoot Quad, you might ask? It’s a small, 2-seater all-electric vehicle. The Quad is part of Scoot, a ride-sharing/ride-rental program in San Francisco that’s reimagining what urban transportation can look like.

Ride-sharing might sound strange and inconvenient, but it’s reshaping the way a lot of people get around, especially in cities. More and more people are adopting the ride-share way of life – and Nissan (ahead of the automotive-industry curve, as usual) is one of them.  This way of life helps save time, money and is great for the environment!

Nissan’s partnership with Scoot is just another demonstration of the car-maker’s dedication to new and innovative ways of approaching the future of the automobile.  This further illustrates Nissan’s commitment to helping the environment while also providing transportation that is innovative and exciting!

What do you think of the Nissan Scoot Quad and of ride-sharing? Is this the way of the future?  Tell us your thoughts at Nissan of Lake Charles!

Nissan November Sales Break Company Records

2016 Nissan Rogue

During the first few weeks of December, automakers release reports boosting their sales numbers for the previous month. Nissan November sales flaunt rather impressive numbers, with record-breaking growth pointing towards a successful year for the company. In total, Nissan saw a 4% gain over November 2014’s numbers.

The growth is attributed to record-breaking sales of 95,389 cars and trucks for the company in 2015 so far. The cause of this incredible success is none other than the Nissan Rogue, which has been outselling the Altima sedan, one of the company’s bestsellers, for a consecutive three month period, now.

As of the month of November, the Rogue has sold 22,565 units – a 50% increase over the compact crossover’s sales last year around the same time. The Altima itself saw sales decrease, but Nissan representatives attribute the falling numbers to the fact that the sedan is currently in a transitional period between previous-year and new-year models.

“The new Altima really didn’t play into November results because it is just now starting to arrive,” Dan Mohnke, Nissan’s US Vice President of Sales, says. Furthermore, he says, “But we have that to look forward to as the year ends—not just the new Altima, but also a freshened Sentra reaching dealers later this month, as well as the new Titan.”

The company’s optimism comes from the positive image painted by Nissan November sales numbers, which indicate continuous growth and success. With several new models on the horizon, sales are expected to increase even further. We are excited to see what this success brings to Nissan of Lake Charles!

Nissan 370Z Successor in the Works

2016 Nissan 370ZFor months now, rumor mills and industry experts alike have been leaning back and forth on whether there will be a Nissan 370Z successor. The popular sports car has not had a new iteration since 2009, leading many to believe there may not even be a next-generation model. However, in a recent magazine interview, the chief product specialist for Nismo, Hiroshi Tamura, confirmed that work on a new Z car in underway.

The fanfare over a possible new generation of the Z sports car family exploded once again this past September, when Nissan unveiled the Gripz concept crossover at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Gripz concept boasted a Z badge, causing many to believe that Nissan would be replacing the 370Z sports car with an endeavor into the sport SUV segment. What do you think of the Gripz concept?

Tamura squashed these rumors while speaking to Australian publication Motoring, stating that the Gripz concept will not succeed the 370Z and hinting that a new member of the Z family is in the works.

The Nissan 370Z successor, as well as the Gripz crossover, is still built on the same platform, however, meaning that the next-generation Z car and the Gripz will have many of the same capabilities and features, in addition to a similar performance.  Tell us what you think about a new Z SUV for Nissan here at Nissan of Lake Charles!

Get Ready For The Season With These Winter Car Preparation Tips

Winter Road

Gearing up for a cold winter? One of the most important measures you can take this year is to prepare your vehicle for hazardous road conditions ahead of time – and not after you’ve barely survived the year’s first freeze. Here are some winter car preparation tips to get you started:

  • Make sure that your vehicle is caught up on all routine maintenance, including oil changes and any inspections.
  • Top off all your fluids, especially windshield wiper fluid.
  • Inspect your tires thoroughly, ensuring that you have plenty of tread, and consider installing winter tires.
  • Test out your heating system, especially if you haven’t used it since last winter. You won’t want to discover that it’s broken once it’s too late!
  • Update any emergency gear you have in your car for the winter – perhaps adding a warm blanket, a snow shovel, and a cozy hat.
  • Lastly, purchase some deicer fluid and a top-notch ice scraper, and prevent a frosty, icy windshield from ever making you late for work this season.

And of course, pay close attention to the weather forecast, and if possible, avoid dangerous, icy roads as much as you can. To learn more, visit us at Nissan of Lake Charles.

Origami Nissan Juke Offers Unique Paper Rendering

Believe it or not, the fuel-efficient, high-power Nissan Juke subcompact crossover model is already celebrating its five-year anniversary, and British paper artist Owen Gildersleeve wanted to honor the vehicle justly and in a way that highlights the originality of the Juke.

With the help of Nissan, Gildersleeve was able to create an Origami Nissan Juke completely out of paper, which took more than 200 hours to fold and more than 2,000 pieces of paper.  The best part, it is the size of the Nissan Juke and almost looks real!

In a press release, Gildersleeve drew comparisons between his work and the creation of the Juke, saying the many pieces of paper “represents the thousands of people who helped bring the Nissan JUKE into reality in 2011.”

You can check out the Origami Nissan Juke here, courtesy of Nissan UK’s YouTube channel, showcasing the art – which was clearly inspired by the available Juke exterior color “Solar Yellow.”  Tell us what you think of Gildersleeve’s unique tribute to the Nissan Juke!

The 2016 Nissan Juke balances power and fuel efficiency, able to generate up to 188 horsepower and get up to 32 mpg on the highway. To learn more, visit us anytime at Nissan of Lake Charles.

2016 Nissan Frontier Color and Price Changes

2015 Nissan Frontier

There aren’t many options when it comes to a midsize truck, even with GMC and Chevrolet back in the mix. While still limited, more competition means other automakers have to step up their game and that’s exactly what Nissan has done. The 2016 Nissan Frontier will come with new paint colors and a slight price increase.

The 2016 Frontier S King Cab 4×2 with a five speed manual transmission starts at $18,090. That’s easily the cheapest you can find a new truck for these days. The top end of the Frontier’s spectrum comes is the Pro-4X crew cab models. They run in at $35,410, still not a bad price for a fully loaded pickup.

Nissan’s also looking to appeal to the color conscious as well. New additions to the color spectrum for 2016 include copper, gun metallic, and magnetic black. That brings the total up to eight colors.

The 2016 Frontier comes with two engines. A 2.5-liter four cylinder, with 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, is available in King cab models only. The more powerful 4-liter V6 engine runs in with 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. The Frontier is available in five trims for the 2016 model year.

At Nissan of Lake Charles, we can’t wait to see the latest in affordable midsize pickup trucks!

A Newly Refreshed 2016 Nissan Altima Gets A Few Upgrades

2015 Nissan Altima Pictured

Although the Nissan Altima had a major upgrade a few years ago, Nissan has updated more than just a few things on this refreshed 2016 Nissan Altima.  The Altima is one of Nissan’s more popular models and arguably the brands most popular sedan.  The pricing on this new Altima will reflect some of the changes made by increasing $200 from last year’s model, but when looking at the changes made, this increase is small compared to the changes made.

This year, the 2016 Nissan Altima is getting an exterior redesign, with updates to the front fascia, grille and fenders.  According to Nissan, the 2016 Altima will also incorporate the “Energetic Flow” design in place with the 2016 Maxima.  In addition to this, the interior will feature a softer material, updated steering and suspension and some new technology! With updates to the engine, the MPG is expected to be a class best with 39 MPG Highway.

The 2016 Nissan Altima is a great example of Nissan’s drive to improve its vehicles.  Although the Altima is Nissan’s “bread-and-butter,” the company stills looks for ways to improve an already flourishing model!  Tell us what you think of the Altima’s upgraded features here at Nissan of Lake Charles!  I know we are highly anticipating it’s arrival here at our store!
