With all the new technology that green cars bring, the many terms and various jargon used to describe green cars can get a little bit confusing. To help you out, we’ve put together this little guide of green car terms:
Electric vehicle – An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that runs on electricity instead of gasoline.
Hybrid vehicle – A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that runs on a combination of systems. For example, some hybrids combine an electric motor with a classic gasoline engine.
Plug-in hybrid vehicle – A plug-in hybrid vehicle refers to a vehicle that uses more than one system (making it a hybrid), including an electric source that can be re-charged by plugging the car into an external source of energy. Often these vehicles can operate on only electric power like an EV or only gas power like a hybrid.
Fuel cell vehicle – Lastly, a fuel cell vehicle refers to another type of specific hybrid. In this case, one of the energy sources is electric, and the other is a fuel cell, which converts hydrogen gas into power.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo promises to be the most stunning edition of the classic Nissan model yet, and now, it’s about to get its U.S. debut, after months of anticipation for stateside fans, at the Japanese Classic Car Show this month in California.
The new Nissan GT-R Nismo got its world debut earlier this year at the Nurburgring, but this will be the first opportunity for Americans to see it up close. The gorgeous model is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and it can produce up to 600 horsepower.
At the Nissan GT-R Nismo debut we learned that it has received a ton of upgrades, particularly to its newly renovated interior, which now sports more of a minimalist tone, with far fewer knobs and a sleeker design. The model’s all-wheel drive system has all been improved, making the GT-R Nismo safer in poor weather.
Cleverly, Nissan has scheduled this debut to take place at a show that is classic-car themed, so the newest GT-R Nismo will get its big day right next to some of the oldest, most-loved Nissan models, including the No. 05 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.
Grabbing a bite in summer is one thing, but making food yourself is another adventure entirely. Whether you’re a master chef or an expert with the microwave, this is the season to don your hat and apron. From new recipes to new food altogether, there’s plenty to learn this summer. We here at Nissan of Lake Charles have some of the best summer barbecue recipes to ever hit the grill!
Grilled Veggie Skewers – A quick-to-eat treat, grilled veggie skewers require the following ingredients: cherry tomatoes, eggplant in chunks, olive oil, Tabasco Original Red Sauce, salt, pepper, sugar, and minced cilantro. Preheat the grill while soaking wooden skewers to avoid burning them. Whisk the salt, pepper, sugar, cilantro, Tabasco sauce, and olive oil together. Slide the tomatoes and eggplant onto the skewers with space in between. Cover them in the mixed sauce then place them on the grill. When the eggplant is soft or has grill marks, turn them over.
Grilled Buffalo Chicken – To make grilled buffalo chicken, gather the following ingredients: hot sauce, unsalted butter, ketchup, boneless and skinless chicken breasts, ranch dressing, and hamburger buns. Preheat the grill while mixing the hot sauce, butter, and ketchup in a bowl. Add the chicken and toss to coat it. Let it marinate for 20 minutes before removing the chicken. Grill the chicken until it reaches 165 degrees on the inside. Grill the hamburger buns until lightly toasted then add the chicken and dressing. Add blue cheese-apple slaw for an added burst of flavor.
With the 4th of July right around the corner, everyone’s excited for all the summer fun that goes along with it. One must see on the 4th of July are the amazing fireworks displays. Here in Lake Charles, we are lucky enough to have some of the best 4th of July Fireworks shows and the best spots to see them!
Lake Charles Civic Center
The best places to see fireworks are above beautiful waters, and that’s what makes the Red, White, Blue & You celebration such an amazing show! Located at the Civic Center boardwalk, this show is sure to be stunning with the fireworks reflected in the water. Also, there will be family friendly events going on to keep the kids (and adults) entertained until the fireworks begin!
Prien Lake Park

Prien Lake Park has a unique view of the firework show if you want to avoid the crowds. The lake is just far enough away to avoid the crowds, but close enough to still see the fireworks and the water reflected below.
Isle of Capri Casino

If you are a racing fan, but don’t necessarily want to don a fire suit and drive faster than 200mph, don’t worry—Nissan of Lake Charles has you covered. To get the racing experience without actually getting behind the wheel of a race car, consider getting behind the wheel of a simulator. Here are the top three driving simulators that are currently on the market.
It really doesn’t get any better than iRacing. After all, it’s what some pros use to train. You race on tracks that were scanned using high-tech laser technology. That means you can feel the slightest bump from the actual track that the simulator was modeled from.
The strength of this simulator is how realistic the feel of driving is. You can be driving on worn-out tires and this will have a real effect on how the vehicle handles. Same thing if you happen to drive through a wet patch of road.
Live For Speed may not be the most realistic driving simulator on the market but it probably has the most active online community of all of the driving simulators out there. It has also been around a long time and has many loyal followers.
Of course, these top three driving simulators don’t have a dress code. So you could wear that fire suit if you wanted to…
This year, getting IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation was made even more difficult. Vehicles must now earn the best score of “Good” in all five crashworthiness categories and have an available front crash prevention system to earn any kind of award. To earn that extra “plus” sign, vehicles must also receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention (the Sentra earned the latter). So as hard as it is to earn a Top Safety Pick rating the extra + is even harder.
The 2016 Nissan Sentra joins the 2016 Altima, Maxima, and Murano among our lineup at Nissan of Lake Charles in earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. To enjoy the safety benefits of Forward Emergency Braking technology when shopping for a new Sentra, make sure to equip the optional Technology Package on either the SR or SL models.
If you are interested in getting the 2016 Nissan Sentra, stop by Nissan of Lake Charles today to find out more and check out inventory!
Nissan has just smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest drift with a 190 mph, 30-degree drift in a modified Nissan GT-R NISMO. There’s a reason they call it a power slide, and this drift has plenty of power.
The GT-R NISMO was tuned to crank out a massive 1,380 horsepower, which is more than double the regular GT-R NISMO you can find at Nissan of Lake Charles. And at 600 horsepower, that one’s no slouch either.
If that wasn’t enough, all of the power goes to the rear wheels only. After getting up to speed on a 1.86-mile runway at the United Arab Emirate’s Fujairah International Airport, the GT-R NISMO went into a full, 190 mph drift. Of course, even the best car requires a driver, and keeping it all together behind the wheel was none other than Japanese drift champion Masata Kawabata.
What’s more impressive than the new record is just how thoroughly it destroyed the previous one (held at 135 mph), and in only just three attempts per Guinness’ rules!
Watch the video below and tell us what you think about this incredible feat at Nissan of Lake Charles, located in the heart of Cajun country in Lake Charles, LA.
With its distinct shape and style, the 2016 Nissan JUKE is one of the most artistic vehicles in the automotive industry. Nevertheless, two Australian artists recently took the artistic aesthetic of the Nissan JUKE to the next level, by creating a pair of glow-in-the-dark Nissan JUKE models.
Australian artist Snake Hole and Chris Le recently took on the challenge to transform models of the Nissan JUKE into street art as a part of White Night celebration in Melbourne, Australia.
“Our initial impression when we saw the JUKE was it had snake-like characteristics,” said the Snake Hole team in the press release. “The grill, headlights and long smooth lines resonated immediately with us. We decided to create a series of snakes that traced the shapes and features of the JUKE. We utilized negative space, so that the snakes were glowing, and everything else would be blacked out.”
Chris Le created a model based around the Chinese New Year, while Snake Hole appropriately selected a snake-like theme for their piece.
These pieces of art just go to show how truly creative you can be when you have a Nissan vehicle at your disposal! What would you do to customize your Nissan Juke or other Nissan Models? Tell us at Nissan of Lake Charles!

All-electric is all-good in our opinion, and we’re not the only ones who think so! A bunch of people in California – specifically San Francisco – are learning the benefits of going all-electric and of ride-sharing, and it’s all thanks to the new Nissan Scoot Quad.
What is the new Nissan Scoot Quad, you might ask? It’s a small, 2-seater all-electric vehicle. The Quad is part of Scoot, a ride-sharing/ride-rental program in San Francisco that’s reimagining what urban transportation can look like.
Ride-sharing might sound strange and inconvenient, but it’s reshaping the way a lot of people get around, especially in cities. More and more people are adopting the ride-share way of life – and Nissan (ahead of the automotive-industry curve, as usual) is one of them. This way of life helps save time, money and is great for the environment!
Nissan’s partnership with Scoot is just another demonstration of the car-maker’s dedication to new and innovative ways of approaching the future of the automobile. This further illustrates Nissan’s commitment to helping the environment while also providing transportation that is innovative and exciting!
What do you think of the Nissan Scoot Quad and of ride-sharing? Is this the way of the future? Tell us your thoughts at Nissan of Lake Charles!
