Necessary Components of a Pirate Costume

Pirate Costume

If you’re from Lake Charles, then you know about the Louisiana Pirate Festival. And if you’re going to celebrate like a pirate, you have to look like a pirate. These are some of the components you’ll need for the perfect pirate costume.

If you’re from Lake Charles, then you know about the Louisiana Pirate Festival. And if you’re going to celebrate like a pirate, you have to look like a pirate. These are some of the components you’ll need for the perfect pirate costume.

Bandana

Many pirates boast bandanas. Of course, it’s up to you how you wear it. You can tie it over your eyes as a nod to the “Dread Pirate Roberts” or sloppily around your head like Captain Jack Sparrow.

Hat

If bandanas aren’t your pirate-style, you can opt for the dramatic skull-and-crossbones hat. You can also swap between a hat and a bandana throughout the day.

Ripped Clothing

A pirate goes through a lot—and so does their clothing. Whether you choose cutoff pants or a long skirt, you’ll need to make sure that your clothing is somewhat tattered to show off the pirate’s life you’ve survived.

Eyepatch

A pirate’s eyepatch represents their battle scars, which of course means that you’ll need one. An eyepatch gives off the ultimate “don’t mess with me” vibe.

Sword

You can’t be a pirate without the pirate’s classic weapon. Whether you have a small dagger or large sword as a prop, you’ll need some kind of sword to give off pirate power. Just make sure it’s not real.

With these accessories, you’ll have everything you need to pull off a convincing pirate costume. Nissan of Lake Charles hopes to see you and your costume at the Louisiana Pirate Festival!

Winter Car Maintenance Checklist

Winter Car Maintenance | Nissan of Lake Charles | Lake Charles, LA

Even if you live in a hot area like LA, it’s important to have routine maintenance done on your car, and the seasons are a good way to schedule around it. So for all you LA residents, here’s a list of winter car maintenance tasks you should get done this season.

This is a good time to get an oil change, for one. Oil changes should be done about twice a year depending on your car and your driving habits, and before winter is a good time—maybe you’ll be traveling somewhere cold for the holidays and need that fresh, clean oil.

Another good thing to do is replace your air filters. This helps your heating and cooling system work better, but even if you’re not using those, it’s just better for your car. This also goes for flushing and refilling the cooling system.

Check your tire pressure. You won’t experience the same drop in pressure that people living in colder climates do, but any change in air temperature can have an effect. Having the right tire pressure is important year-round.

Tips for Driving on Thanksgiving

Tips for Driving on Thanksgiving | Nissan of Lake Charles | Lake Charles, LA

When you’re traveling on Thanksgiving, you could be going as far away as across the country or staying in your hometown. But whether you’re driving five miles or five hundred, you should always practice safe driving, and holidays are some of the most dangerous driving times of the year. Here are some tips for driving on Thanksgiving that will help you have a safe, relaxing holiday.

One thing you should make sure to do if you’re traveling long distance is inspect your car before you leave and make sure your fluids are at the right level, your lights are all working, and your tire pressure is where it’s supposed to be. A holiday is a pretty terrible day to have a breakdown.

Another thing you should do is prepare the inside of the car for the trip—make sure the GPS is programmed with the address you’re going to, snacks and games and other kid-distracting supplies are in reach, and that your luggage isn’t higher than your vehicle’s weight capacity.

Finally, when you’re actually driving, it’s important to have patience, especially because the traffic will probably be slow. Driving while angry is almost as bad as distracted driving, so don’t let yourself get mad. And keep your hands off your phone as much as possible!

These are just a few tips you can follow for safer Thanksgiving driving. Give us a call today at Nissan of Lake Charles for more, or to find the perfect Nissan vehicle for you to take on your Thanksgiving road trip.
