Mardi Gras is a tradition in the Lake Charles community, one that dates back years. Mardi Gras has its roots in religious traditions, but it also marks an important cultural holiday for many. While New Orleans has one of the most famous celebrations in the world, Lake Charles also holds one of the biggest Mardi Gras events around. That’s why we at Nissan of Lake Charles have written about ways to prepare for Mardi Gras.
According to the Lake Charles website, the event will be held on February 13. There will be a parade, museum tours, and more. One of the best things you can do to prepare is to get your costume ready. Believe it or not, the average costume weighs more than 50 pounds. Aluminum foil is a popular material, but you’ll also want to spend plenty on fringe.
Next, visit the Mardi Gras Museum to learn more about the event. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 5 pm, and it has information dating back centuries about the sounds and sights of Carnival. Located in the Central School Arts and Humanities Center, the Mardi Gras Museum opened in 1998.
Finally, have fun! People have been celebrating Mardi Gras in Lake Charles since 1882. Hosting one of the largest events in the region, Lake Charles is home to a joyous celebration that’s fun for all. Be sure to get out and enjoy the holiday festivities this year.
