If you’ve only just started a family or have enough kids to drive you crazy, chances are that you’ll want an affordable, yet safe way of transporting them to school, the mall, soccer practice, and maybe even their grandparents’ so you and your partner-in-crime can have a well-deserved night out. The answer to all your problems: the 2017 Nissan Rogue.
The 2017 Nissan Rogue is highly affordable, yet comes equipped with plenty of features to keep your family safe. In fact, the Rogue offers a class-exclusive standard Blind Spot Warning System, a class-exclusive standard Rear Cross Traffic System, class-exclusive available Moving Object Detection, and class-exclusive Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Even so, it comes in cheaper than its competitors. To get similar features on the 2017 Toyota RAV4, for instance, you’ll have to shell out an extra $2,800.
You’ll also save at the gas pump with the Nissan Rogue with 35 miles per gallon on the highway, compared to 30 from the RAV4, 32 from the Subaru Forester, and just 29 from the Ford Escape.* Want a hybrid engine? Nissan still crushes the competition with 34 mpg highway compared to 30 mpg for the 2017 Toyota RAV4 and Lexus NX Hybrid models.*
It’s no secret that you’ll save money when you buy a Nissan Rogue. But how can you spend those savings?
Buying better groceries, clothes, and school supplies for the kids
Starting a college savings fund for the kids
Taking a family vacation to a new place
Or maybe just buying a nice bottle of wine for date night once a month
The Nissan Altima is a fantastic family car, but it is also well-suited to first-time car buyers who are on a tight budget. Not only does it offer the latest in safety technology (such as a class-exclusive predictive forward collision warning system), it is also offered at a lower starting price than competitors like the Camry (more than $500 cheaper for the base model) and gets a better fuel economy rating at 39 miles per gallon on the highway (6 mpg better than the Camry).*
It’s clear that you can save money when you buy a Nissan Altima—in the actual cost of the car, in trips to the gas station, and in avoiding costly accidents (the 2017 Nissan Altima was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Plus winner). But how you’ll spend those savings? That part is up to you.
Here are some ways that young Altima buyers spend their savings:
Paying for college textbooks with the money saved due to a smaller down payment
Buying healthier and more diverse groceries (or splurging on Friday night pizza) with the money saved by less frequent fuel fill-ups
Starting a savings account, IRA, or other investment opportunity with the monthly savings from driving a more affordable and accident-avoiding vehicle

Summer road trips have been an American tradition for many families since the mid-1900s. Louisiana is home to several iconic sights and a few well-kept secrets that make it the perfect state to explore beneath the summer sun. Here are some of the best summer road trips in Louisiana recommended by us here at Nissan of Lake Charles!
While it may sound familiar as a cheap restaurant, this White Castle is much more impressive. Otherwise known as Nottoway Plantation, White Castle stands as the largest remaining antebellum mention in the entire Southern United States. Visitors can even pay to stay a night in a mansion built in the late 1800s and sitting at 53,000 square feet!
Jean Lafitte National Park
Six sites make up Jean Lafitte National Park, but the best of the bunch is certainly Barataria Preserve. The 23,000-acre wetlands offer plenty of natural wonders to behold, including wildlife like frogs and birds. Keep your eyes open as you explore the marshes and forests, though. The area is also home to alligators.
Hills aren’t the first thing one thinks of when Louisiana comes up in conversation. Tunica Hills, however, is a premier destination where visitors can enjoy nature and spot some wildlife on the loose. Foxes, bobcats, and coyotes tend to roam the area, so be sure to have your eyes open and camera ready!
There are plenty of benefits to owning a truck, but some of them are only prevalent when disaster strikes. Natural disasters and major life events could leave sedan owners out in the cold. Truck owners, on the other hand, could find themselves quite comfortable in the elements. Here are some of the best situations to own a truck in from us here at Nissan of Lake Charles.
Natural disasters, such as mudslides, can be devastating on those who suddenly have no form of transportation. Fortunately, tough trucks like the Nissan Frontier, Titan, and Titan XD, can roll through mud like it’s nothing. While a midsize sedan could find itself stuck rather quickly, a truck’s four-wheel drive system will allow it to plow forward with little resistance.
Cars may be heavy, but they aren’t designed to travel through deep water. Many models are low to the ground and don’t offer the clearance required to travel through flood waters safely. That’s where trucks come in.
Full-size pickups offer the ground clearance to traverse flood waters with relative ease, depending on the level of flooding in the area.
Moving house tends to be a major life event most people only experience a handful of times. Owning a truck can make moving much easier and cheaper, as using the bed to haul possessions saves on moving truck costs. Plus, there’s no need to worry about having the truck back at a certain time or on a specific day!
You’ve got the truck, now what will you need to go with it? There are plenty of ways to amp up your pickup, adding more personality, more capability, or whatever you’d like. Here are some must-haves on the list of possible accessories for your truck.
Truck Bed Extender
When you’re in need of some extra room in the bed of your pickup, it’s helpful to have a truck bed extender handy. This accessory allows you leave the tailgate open and to support long items that would otherwise hang free out the back of your bed.
Tie Down Straps and Tow Hooks
If you recently purchased a Nissan Frontier® or a Nissan Titan® from Nissan of Lake Charles, you likely have plans to carry plenty of cargo, and for that purpose you will need the straps and hooks to make it possible. Owning a sturdy set of tie down straps is imperative when carrying heavy loads safely.
Loading that lawnmower or your family’s off-road recreational vehicle just got a whole lot easier, thanks to a helpful loading ramp accessory.
Speaking of off-roading, having a winch on hand is extremely helpful should a vehicle get stuck in the mud. You can also use a winch to help carry the extra heavy loads. When it comes to getting the most out of your truck, anything that can offer extra power and performance does right by our standards.
Thinking about stepping up into a pickup for the first time? There are tons of great reasons to own a truck, as any truck owner can attest to. If you’re considering making the change from car or SUV to truck, take a look at some of our favorite reasons from Nissan of Lake Charles. They may just persuade you.
Most trucks are equipped with all-wheel drive and large ground clearances, so these big vehicles have no trouble tackling some tough terrain. When you own a truck, things like camping become a whole new adventure.
Moving is Simple
You’ll never have to rent a U-Haul again. Just be ready to lend a helping hand when your friends and family have their moving days!
Today’s pickups, whether lightweight or heavy duty, boast some seriously powerful engines with high horsepower. As a result, not only will you have no trouble hauling and carrying big cargo, but you’ll also have a fun driving experience every time.
Bad Weather, No Problem
Just as trucks can handle off-roading like champions, they can also tackle snow, rain, and other bad weather with ease.
Today’s trucks come in plenty of sizes and configurations. You can get a truck as luxurious as a fancy SUV, or one that’s equipped with as many safety features as you’d find in a small car. With so many options, it’s easy to find a truck that’s sure to keep you happy in the long run.
In a recent round of reviews from Autotrader, the all-new 2017 Nissan Armada was chosen as one of the top 12 vehicles that shoppers should consider and experience this year and was given a “Must Test Drive Award.” The Armada was chosen from more than 300 new vehicles.

Whatever your car needs are, here at Nissan of Lake Charles, we will help you make the best use of your tax refund dollars.
Nissan has conducted public testing in the US and Japan before in an effort to pursue self-driving technology in real life situations. Nissan allowed the public to participate by riding in an autonomous vehicle, which uses a wide array of technologies including wave radar, laser scanners, cameras, and a Human Machine Interface, plus many more, to sense vehicles around it and make decisions in seconds.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility, Nissan’s program to improve mobility and autonomy around the world, combines three areas of innovation to produce fully autonomous, driverless vehicles: Nissan Intelligent Driving improves safety and control; Nissan Intelligent Power focuses on reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency, including electric and hybrid technologies; and Nissan Intelligent Integration is all about connecting cars together, which will eventually lead to a smarter remote vehicle operation and more efficient driving.
If you’re curious about Nissan vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility program, ask us today at Nissan of Lake Charles!
The Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue is one of our nearest and dearest charities here at Nissan of Lake Charles. The organization is a nonprofit that rescues pit bulls (and other “pit bull-type” dogs) and adopts them out, because the local shelter and other area shelters won’t.
Rescue and adoption aren’t all Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue does, though. They’re also involved in training their pit bulls as therapy dogs through the Positive Pit Project, which is especially active in providing therapy dogs to veterans. LCPBR works with Team Halo and Eylsa’s Purpose to fight animal cruelty cases as well.
The organization is extremely dedicated to their dogs and provides them with the best care possible. All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and given all their shots. LCPBR even takes them for surgeries at the LSU Veterinary School of Medicine, which has included heart surgery, MRIs, and cancer treatment.
Support from Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue doesn’t end when you adopt your dog. Part of the adoption fee goes to a training session with the organization’s trainer, and LCPBR is happy to continue helping after the adoption when needed.
The organization also helps the community by building fences and providing training workshops. At Nissan of Lake Charles, we’re glad to share a town with a group that does such incredible work.
John Stelly is the owner of Nissan of Lake Charles and is active in the community with several not for profit organizations.
