If your family is like so many others in the United States, then you probably have a road trip coming up soon this summer. One part of a successful road trip is having a well-packed car, so here are a few tips on how to pack your car for a road trip.
Luggage. When packing your luggage into the trunk or cargo area, make sure the heaviest items are on the bottom. You also want to avoid stacking items so high that the driver can’t see out of the back of the vehicle.
Overnight bag. If you’ll be stopping overnight along the way, consider packing an overnight bag (perhaps a single suitcase for the whole family) that includes only the essentials you’ll need for the night and the next morning—a change of clothes, medicines, toiletries, etc. That way you don’t have to bring in all of your luggage and repack the car the next day.
Activity bag. Each member of the family should have a small bag of things to occupy them during the trip—books, tablets, coloring, handheld games, etc.
Snacks. If you’ve ever been on a road trip before you know how important food is while in the car. Pack a good supply of car-friendly snacks and drinks to keep everyone happy. Place the snack container in a central spot so everyone has access to it.
The 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans has ended and Nissan powered its way to its fifth class victory in LM P2 with engines in 12 of the top 13 finishing cars. Next year, due to new class regulations all LM P2 engines will be a mandated spec engine from Gibson Technologies.
“This year is the final year of the Nissan LM P2 engine program and I am very satisfied with our great result,” said Motohiro Matsumura, NISMO Chief Operating Officer said, in a statement. “Top nine cars using the Nissan powertrain is a good way to finish for us.”
In total, there were 20 Nissan engines in the race—a record-setting number that included 87% of the class and 35% of the entire field.
Drivers, owners, and others associated with LM P2 repeatedly describe the Nissan engine as fast, reliable, drivable, and amazing.
First developed for Super GT competition in 2007, the Nissan VK45 engine has had remarkable success in nearly every racing class it has been used in. The Nissan GT-Rs won seven victories out of nine races and were led by the No.23 NISMO, which won the championship title. The engine saw its first use in LM P2 in 2011 after it was redeveloped.
Here at Nissan of Lake Charles, we are interested to see what Nissan will do with this phenomenal engine after LM P2.

There are several places that an automotive brand’s concept vehicles can make their debut. Some are revealed during automotive shows, while others are unveiled during a press conference for the brand. However, the latest concept vehicle from the minds of Nissan has made its debut in a more unorthodox way. It has been revealed through a video game!
According to a Nissan press release, the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo has made its debut during the launch for Grand Turismo Sport. So racing game fanatics were able to get the first glimpse of the new concept before anyone else!
Grand Turismo is a long-running video game racing series during which vehicles, both real and conceptual, race off against each other. The latest of the games in the series includes several concept vehicles, including the Nissan Concept 2020.
The development team behind designing the concept vehicle were given free reign by Nissan. The result is a fierce-looking vehicle that drives just as fiercely during the game!
For the best vehicles, whether they are conceptual or available for purchase, Nissan always comes in first place! Stop by Nissan of Lake Charles today to find out more about our current lineup of Nissan models.
If you are a racing fan, but don’t necessarily want to don a fire suit and drive faster than 200mph, don’t worry—Nissan of Lake Charles has you covered. To get the racing experience without actually getting behind the wheel of a race car, consider getting behind the wheel of a simulator. Here are the top three driving simulators that are currently on the market.
It really doesn’t get any better than iRacing. After all, it’s what some pros use to train. You race on tracks that were scanned using high-tech laser technology. That means you can feel the slightest bump from the actual track that the simulator was modeled from.
The strength of this simulator is how realistic the feel of driving is. You can be driving on worn-out tires and this will have a real effect on how the vehicle handles. Same thing if you happen to drive through a wet patch of road.
Live For Speed may not be the most realistic driving simulator on the market but it probably has the most active online community of all of the driving simulators out there. It has also been around a long time and has many loyal followers.
Of course, these top three driving simulators don’t have a dress code. So you could wear that fire suit if you wanted to…
You expect a Heisman Trophy winner to be good at football, but you might not know that many of them really know how to hammer a nail, too. For the fourth year in a row, the Heisman Trophy Trust has partnered up with Nissan to construct a Habitat for Humanity home in Nashville.
The Heisman Trophy winners participating in the build are:
Tim Brown (Notre Dame)
Mark Ingram (Alabama)
George Rogers (South Carolina)
Billy Sims (Oklahoma)
Current Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota (Oregon)
These Heisman Trophy winners are joined by the future homeowner Mohammed Berema and his wife, Khadija Aldom. They will also be joined by various teams of Nissan volunteers for a month-long build.
Jeremy Tucker, VP of marketing for Nissan said, “We’re grateful to these athletes for joining in this unique partnership…to help Berema and Aldom and their family improve their living conditions through home ownership.”
The partnership between Nissan and Habitat for Humanity has been a long and fruitful one. According to a press release from the automaker, Nissan employees have helped to build 70 homes and the Nissan has donated $13 million since 2006.

This year, getting IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation was made even more difficult. Vehicles must now earn the best score of “Good” in all five crashworthiness categories and have an available front crash prevention system to earn any kind of award. To earn that extra “plus” sign, vehicles must also receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention (the Sentra earned the latter). So as hard as it is to earn a Top Safety Pick rating the extra + is even harder.
The 2016 Nissan Sentra joins the 2016 Altima, Maxima, and Murano among our lineup at Nissan of Lake Charles in earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. To enjoy the safety benefits of Forward Emergency Braking technology when shopping for a new Sentra, make sure to equip the optional Technology Package on either the SR or SL models.
If you are interested in getting the 2016 Nissan Sentra, stop by Nissan of Lake Charles today to find out more and check out inventory!
Nissan has just smashed the Guinness World Record for the fastest drift with a 190 mph, 30-degree drift in a modified Nissan GT-R NISMO. There’s a reason they call it a power slide, and this drift has plenty of power.
The GT-R NISMO was tuned to crank out a massive 1,380 horsepower, which is more than double the regular GT-R NISMO you can find at Nissan of Lake Charles. And at 600 horsepower, that one’s no slouch either.
If that wasn’t enough, all of the power goes to the rear wheels only. After getting up to speed on a 1.86-mile runway at the United Arab Emirate’s Fujairah International Airport, the GT-R NISMO went into a full, 190 mph drift. Of course, even the best car requires a driver, and keeping it all together behind the wheel was none other than Japanese drift champion Masata Kawabata.
What’s more impressive than the new record is just how thoroughly it destroyed the previous one (held at 135 mph), and in only just three attempts per Guinness’ rules!
Watch the video below and tell us what you think about this incredible feat at Nissan of Lake Charles, located in the heart of Cajun country in Lake Charles, LA.
With its distinct shape and style, the 2016 Nissan JUKE is one of the most artistic vehicles in the automotive industry. Nevertheless, two Australian artists recently took the artistic aesthetic of the Nissan JUKE to the next level, by creating a pair of glow-in-the-dark Nissan JUKE models.
Australian artist Snake Hole and Chris Le recently took on the challenge to transform models of the Nissan JUKE into street art as a part of White Night celebration in Melbourne, Australia.
“Our initial impression when we saw the JUKE was it had snake-like characteristics,” said the Snake Hole team in the press release. “The grill, headlights and long smooth lines resonated immediately with us. We decided to create a series of snakes that traced the shapes and features of the JUKE. We utilized negative space, so that the snakes were glowing, and everything else would be blacked out.”
Chris Le created a model based around the Chinese New Year, while Snake Hole appropriately selected a snake-like theme for their piece.
These pieces of art just go to show how truly creative you can be when you have a Nissan vehicle at your disposal! What would you do to customize your Nissan Juke or other Nissan Models? Tell us at Nissan of Lake Charles!
