Nissan has conducted public testing in the US and Japan before in an effort to pursue self-driving technology in real life situations. Nissan allowed the public to participate by riding in an autonomous vehicle, which uses a wide array of technologies including wave radar, laser scanners, cameras, and a Human Machine Interface, plus many more, to sense vehicles around it and make decisions in seconds.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility, Nissan’s program to improve mobility and autonomy around the world, combines three areas of innovation to produce fully autonomous, driverless vehicles: Nissan Intelligent Driving improves safety and control; Nissan Intelligent Power focuses on reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency, including electric and hybrid technologies; and Nissan Intelligent Integration is all about connecting cars together, which will eventually lead to a smarter remote vehicle operation and more efficient driving.
If you’re curious about Nissan vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility program, ask us today at Nissan of Lake Charles!
The Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue is one of our nearest and dearest charities here at Nissan of Lake Charles. The organization is a nonprofit that rescues pit bulls (and other “pit bull-type” dogs) and adopts them out, because the local shelter and other area shelters won’t.
Rescue and adoption aren’t all Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue does, though. They’re also involved in training their pit bulls as therapy dogs through the Positive Pit Project, which is especially active in providing therapy dogs to veterans. LCPBR works with Team Halo and Eylsa’s Purpose to fight animal cruelty cases as well.
The organization is extremely dedicated to their dogs and provides them with the best care possible. All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and given all their shots. LCPBR even takes them for surgeries at the LSU Veterinary School of Medicine, which has included heart surgery, MRIs, and cancer treatment.
Support from Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue doesn’t end when you adopt your dog. Part of the adoption fee goes to a training session with the organization’s trainer, and LCPBR is happy to continue helping after the adoption when needed.
The organization also helps the community by building fences and providing training workshops. At Nissan of Lake Charles, we’re glad to share a town with a group that does such incredible work.
New drivers have likely heard about recommended maintenance. However, more experienced drivers may forget to tell them about preventative maintenance. Taking a few minutes out of your week for maintenance can help prevent future problems.
Owner’s Manual – Reading a boring manual isn’t anyone’s idea of fun, but the owner’s manual is the literal guide to your vehicle. Learning everything you need to know is pertinent to most owners. Drivers should at least find the manufacturer-recommended service schedule and mark the page for future reference.
Windshield Wiper – Windshield wipers should be replaced every six months as a general rule of thumb. A new set is relatively inexpensive, and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to install. New wipers offer optimized visibility during rain and snow. Increased safety comes cheap when it comes to new windshield wipers. Consult your owner’s manual for specific installation instructions.
Engine Air Filter – Regularly replacing the engine air filter is a necessity for every vehicle. The owner’s manual will tell you how many miles or months should pass between each new filter. Consider asking a dealership to give the air filter a good look during your next service appointment.
Picture this vehicle- just with a bunch more gadgets and technology. That’s the Nissan NV Cargo X Van.
While drones are currently all the rage, Nissan is pulling out all of the stops in the form of a vehicle designed to go where no drone has gone before. The Nissan NV Cargo X van project vehicle is based on a standard NV2500 HD van with just a few adjustments. While it isn’t ready for the market just yet, it seems to have serious potential as a delivery van.
Nissan isn’t exactly new to experimenting with van configurations and designs. One van took drifting to a whole new level, while another fuel-cell vehicle ran on biofuel. A third became a mobile office, complete with a coffee machine.
Unlike those models, however, the Cargo X project van doesn’t need a paved road to move. Ian Johnson, host of Xtreme Off-Road, had a hand in the creation of the van.
Nissan partnered up with Johnson to create the ultimate off-road van. First, a custom off-road suspension sits beneath the body. Then, they used the Titan XD’s 5.0-liter Cummins turbo-diesel V8 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive system. 37-inch Grabber X3 tires bring a total of 22 inches of ground clearance.
It also comes stocked with an air system, fluid storage, rope, recovery tracks, and a portable welder.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has spoken: the 2017 Nissan Maxima is one of the safest new vehicles on the road. In fact, the IIHS named the new Nissan Maxima—as well as the new Nissan Altima and Nissan Rogue—a “Top Safety Pick+,” the institute’s highest honor.
This means that the new Nissan Maxima scored the “Good” rating in all of the IIHS’s “Top Safety Pick” test categories and that it excelled in categories such as front crash prevention. New Maxima models with Forward Emergency Braking scored best.
Forward Emergency Braking prevents forward collisions with sensors that can tell if there is a pedestrian, another vehicle, or some other object in front of the Maxima, automatically engaging the brakes even if the driver hasn’t yet noticed the danger.
The new Nissan Maxima comes with many other automatic features, including Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert – each of which aim to address problems that drivers may not notice.
Want to learn more about the Nissan Maxima safety ratings or perhaps even take the new vehicle out on a test drive? Contact us or simply visit us anytime at Nissan of Lake Charles.
Have the holidays left you in a funk? Whether you were stressed out by family, overindulged in too many seasonal goodies, or are trying to make this upcoming year better than the last – here are some tips to start the New Year right.
Start a new sleep routine, and stick to it. To get a proper amount of sleep every night, consistency is key. Winding down the same time each night and waking the same time each morning will set your body’s natural rhythm.
Consider practicing yoga, which will not only provide you with the meditation you may need to de-stress but also will start you off on a mild exercise routine.
Similarly, as cliché as it may sound, make your New Year’s resolution related to the gym. Getting in shape will make you happier as well as healthier.
If you feel monetarily drained from buying presents this year, start saving more money, by putting a small portion of all your earnings into a savings account.
Lastly, pick up a new hobby, ideally one with a creative outlet, such as cooking, which can aid you in your healthy quest.

Free track time has become a major part of an auto enthusiast’s decision to purchase a performance-driven car, and now Nissan is jumping on board. Drivers who choose to get behind the wheel of a new Nissan GT-R will see free track time at the Virginia International Raceway. Even better, instructors will tutor drivers how to make the most of their car.
The new Nissan GT-R comes at an $8,000 increase over the previous model. That’s a substantial amount, but considering the changes it’s totally worth it! The titanium exhaust, which costs near $13,000 and the added track time, a $2,000 add-on, it’s a pretty sweet deal. The free track time applies to models purchased between November 14, 2016, and March 31, 2017.
GT-R owners can get behind the wheel and take on the Virginia International Raceway’s complicated configurations with an instructor. As you would expect, hitting the track will not void the GT-R’s factory warranty.
Owners will have to provide their own food, lodging, and transportation. Considering drivers will need to provide their own GT-R, transportation won’t be much of an issue.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the NISMO performance brand of vehicle is getting the same track-time treatment – yet.
We here at Nissan of Lake Charles are happy to see drivers getting such an incredible deal on an even more incredible car!

Nissan’s “No Charge to Charge” program makes owning an electric vehicle even more affordable than it already is. While drivers don’t need to stop to fill up at the gas station, they do need to charge their battery packs. With the purchase or lease of a new Nissan LEAF, drivers can do so for free for up to two years.
The two-year “No Charge to Charge” program offers drivers no-cost public charging which can save owners up to $1,000 over the course of the program. That’s a major chunk of change and, with the affordability of the LEAF already established, could change the minds of many drivers opposed to electric vehicles.
The new Nissan LEAF boasts a range of 107 miles. With the introduction of the “No Charge to Charge” program in Madison, Wisconsin, owners can travel to Milwaukee on just one charge.
“As a pioneer in bringing affordable EVs to the mass market, Nissan understands that EV owners want to be confident in their ability to drive longer distances and this program does just that,” said Brian Maragno, Nissan EV Sales and Marketing director.
Nissan has proven time and time again that they’re dedicated to making electric vehicle ownership affordable and available to a vast array of drivers. The latest rollout of the “No Charge to Charge” program further reinforces that dedication.
The holiday season is a wonderful time of the year but it can also be incredibly stressful. Many people don’t travel throughout the year save for the holidays and that can cause some problems. Travelers that aren’t used to congested roadways or crowded airports can slow things down. Here are some helpful holiday travel tips from us here at Nissan of Lake Charles that will help make starting the most wonderful time of the year less stressful.
Pack Light – Heading home for the holidays? Consider shipping your extra clothes and presents through the mail instead of packing them. Doing so will ensure you get through security quicker and leave drivers will less to pack into the car. Flyers could also avoid hefty baggage fees by bringing a single carry-on.
Eat – No matter how much of a hurry you’re in, grab a bite to eat along the way. Many travelers choose to forego eating until they reach their destination in order to save time. As a result, they often grow irritable, and that isn’t good when stress levels are already running high.
Research – Do your research on which airlines offers the best deals. Drivers should plan their route ahead of time. Make sure to use the technology made available by smartphones, tablets, and navigation systems as well!
