Nissan unveiled New York’s next generation of yellow cabs at the New York Auto Show last week. The vehicle, commissioned by New York City officials, will be a minivan featuring sliding doors, antibacterial seats, airbags throughout the cabin, and outlets to charge mobile phones.
Nissan promises the cab will be durable enough to handle New York’s potholed streets and fuel-efficient even during start-and-stop driving.
The Nissan cab will be equipped with a transparent roof, flat foors with no hump, massive amounts of legroom (25 centimeters more than a Crown Victoria) and more luggage space than most current cabs.
The NV200 minivan will replace older cabs in the fall of 2013, replacing 16 current taxi models built by nine different manufacturers.
