IIHS awards 2013 Nissan Altima with “Top Safety Pick Plus” rating

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently awarded the 2013 Nissan Altima with an award recognizing passenger vehicles for outstanding performance in five passenger safety crash tests.

The IIHS now performs front, side, rollover, and rear crash tests, as well as the small overlap frontal test, a new addition for 2013. The Altima’s high scores in every area earned it a the “Top Safety Pick Plus” designation.

“Driver and passenger safety are top priorities for Nissan, which is why we make features like Safety Shield technologies available,” said Bob Yakushi, Nissan’s director of product safety. “The 2013 Altima is truly Nissan’s most innovative Altima ever, and the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus’ designation by IIHS reflects the engineering and design that have gone into this car to make it stand out in the class.”

The Nissan Altima was also awarded a five-star safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this year.

Advanced Braking Systems save lives, shows study

A study by federal safety regulators show that drivers can thank advanced safety features such as computer-controlled braking and stability control systems for an increase in safe travels.

The study was conducted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2008 to 2010. From 2008 to 2010, it’s estimated that electronic stability control (ESC) systems saved 2,200 lives, with that number increasing every year as more equipped vehicles hit the road.

Today, all Nissan vehicles come standard with ESC. The system continuously monitors the steering and braking actions of the driver, senses any oversteer or understeer, and compensates by reducing engine speed and/or applying brake pressure to specific wheels. It’s built into the vehicle along with traction control, which senses slippage and helps the driver regain control of the vehicle on.

Nissan Altima named best sedan for used buyers

2006 Nissan Altima

Right now, dealer demand for the pre-owned Altima might be best expressed by that old Van Halen song: everybody wants some. The Nissan Altima has been named the best midsized sedan for used car buyers, and demand for the affordable-but-fun car is up. The 2005 through 2010 models received the best marks from Edmunds.

The Nissan Altima is well-known for reliability, and its fuel-efficient-but-stylish design make it fun and family-friendly. Interior ergonomic design and comfort, as well as ultra-smooth operation, make it great to drive.

And, while demand for the Altima is up, now may be the best time for buyers to look for used cars. The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) reported in April that we could see the price of used cars decrease this summer, and they have recently confirmed that report.  In fact, some models’ value could drop by $900 in only one month.
